The relationship between technical efficiency, firm growth and market structure in the Indonesian palm oil industry

This research investigates the relationship between efficiency and firm growth as well market structure (CR4) to evaluate whether quiet-life (QL) and/or efficient (ES) hypothesis applies in Indonesian palm oil industry. study uses large medium industry survey data sourced from Bureau of Central Statistics (BPS) for period 1990 2017. The score is calculated using envelopment analysis (DEA) a bootstrapping approach. two-step generalized method moments (GMM) panel vector auto regression (PVAR) are used test two hypotheses. results show that technical can increase firm’s share, concentration, power. These support ES hypothesis. also finds has an impact on efficiency, providing evidence supporting QL indicate hypotheses apply Indonesia during business cycle needs be considered by policymakers.
